EVENT INFORMATION FOR SUNDAY 30th OCTOBER

With only a few days to go until the 2022 Mary’s House Walk, now is a good time to share some key information about the walk and details of the activities we have planned for the day.

The Starting Line

8:15 – 9:00am: Registrations open at Milson Park, Kirribilli. Here you will be provided with your Mary’s House walking cap and drink bottle. Croissants have been donated by I LOVE BUTTER for the first 100 people to arrive.

9:00am: Welcome Speeches will commence.

9:15am: Warm-up by Mel Thomas from KYUP.

Mel is a frontline domestic violence prevention expert who speaks openly and candidly about the complex social issues surrounding family violence from first-hand experience.

In 2013, Mel won a scholarship with the Layne Beachley Foundation to establish Australia’s Premier domestic violence prevention education charity, the KYUP! Project (pronounced KEY-UP! named after a martial arts power shout).

9:45am: The Walk commences in 5-minute groupings. You will be allocated with a group start at registration.

12:30pm: When you have completed the walk back at Milson Park, we welcome everyone to continue up the hill towards The Kirribilli Centre and join us for a casual lunch. Access to The Kirribilli Centre will be from Bligh Street, Kirribilli.

Wet Weather

While the weather is looking good for Sunday, we still need to be prepared that this may change. If there is light or slight drizzle for the walk, we will still be going ahead with it. In the event that the weather poses a risk to our participants, the event will be cancelled. We will be making a decision by 5pm Saturday if this occurs and posting it on our socials and website.

Parking

Parking can be challenging in Kirribilli and we encourage people to use the local public transport options i.e. train, ferry or bus. There are some spots around Milson Park that are not subject to restrictions on a Sunday.

Lunch

We welcome everyone to join us for lunch at The Kirribilli Centre from 12:30. We have pizza from the Pizza Boys and drinks available. We would love to see as many children come as well and we have entertainment for the children as well as treats. Bring your families along to celebrate your achievement!. Kindly access The Kirribilli Centre from Bligh Street.

Raffle

We will be selling raffle tickets on the day for $10 each. The prizes include:

  • RM Williams 90th Anniversary Craftsman Boot, valued at $649.00.
  • Vittoria Coffee hamper
  • Sunset Cruise and 3 course dinner for 2 on Sydney Harbour valued at $250.00
  • Australian wine
Dogs

We welcome your furry friends to come along on the walk with us. Unfortunately dogs are not permitted on the grounds of The Kirribilli Centre. You may be able to tie them outside the Centre, if this was an option for you.

Fundraising

We are well on our way of achieving a great fundraising effort for Mary’s House Services. We received over 300 referrals last year and all money raised will enable us to extend our reach to more women and children impacted by domestic violence. Thank you for all your efforts so far, keep it going!

Have fun

Most importantly, this is a time to have fun! Get your community onboard, meet new people and pound those pavements in preparation.

The Map

All participants will be provided with specific details of the walking route around the Lower North Shore on the day, below if an indication of the area we cover.

Thank you

We are looking forward to seeing everyone on Sunday 30 October. Thank you again for supporting Mary’s House Services and the families we support escaping domestic violence, we truly are so grateful.

Know that you are keeping fit while walking against domestic violence.

Thanks to our sponsors of this year’s Mary’s House Walk, SAINT SOMEBODY, Holding Redlich and the Mater Hospital, North Sydney. We would also like to thank all the volunteers who will be assisting with the day, this event could not be possible without them.

We thank those businesses who have donated items for the walk Vittoria Coffee, R.M. Williams and I Love Butter.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at jacquiem@maryshouse.org.au.

Warmest regards
