Garden for Mary's House

It was a glorious day during the first week of November and the team of nearly a dozen people from Bunnings and Yates descended on Mary’s House with trees, flowers, vegetables, soil, mulch and garden furniture.
Everything that slows us down and forces patience, everything that sets us back into the slow circles of nature, is a help. Gardening is an instrument of grace. May Sarton
The companies were keen to get their hands dirty in a community oriented garden. Bunning’s Chatswood and Artarmon activities organizers Joe Micali, Patti Davis and Megan Elliott from Yates had previously checked out the site and coordinated to have all the volunteers, plants and materials ready.

Yates provided the soils, fertiliser, pest controls, pots and other incidentals. The Organic Garden Company donated a vegetable bed and Pine Grow, the mulch. Bunnings provided pretty much everything else, including the plants, a large outdoor umbrella and seating for eight residents.

The garden is designed to be low maintenance and drought tolerant, and it fits well with kids play equipment and other activities to keep the young ones entertained and outdoors. The Bunnings outdoor table and umbrella is pleasant for alfresco dining or a cuppa while supervising the kids.
I think this is what hooks one to gardening: it is the closest one can come to being present at creation. Phyylis Theroux
There are also cooking herbs and tomatoes and flowers for decoration inside the house.

And, to top it off, Simon Jenkins from Jim’s Mowing is going to assist us with regular lawn and garden maintenance.
This is not the first donation from Bunnings to Mary’s House. Earlier this year community officers from 11 Bunnings stores across Sydney donated items for the house including office supplies and air conditioners, lamps, sinks and bathroom supplies. With special thanks to these Bunnings stores: Artarmon, Balgowlah, Belrose, Carlingford, Chatswood, Gordon, Thornleigh, Narembeen, North Parramatta, Rydelmere, Warringah Mall,
