Terrey Hills Golf and Country Club Charity Golf Day
On October 7 Sydney’s Terrey Hills Golf and Country Club (THGCC) held its inaugural charity event and Mary’s House was very fortunate to be selected as a beneficiary.
The day consisted of a golf competition followed by a gala dinner. The guest of honour was Steve Williams, certainly the most significant caddy in world golf because of his lengthy stints working with Tiger Woods and Alan Scott, among others. Steve flew from his home in Auckland, New Zealand for the event and participated in an engrossing question and answer session with the evening’s M.C., television personality Ray Martin.
Major sponsors for the event were Toyota and the Star Casino, supported by a large number of other sponsors, members and guests. Fund raising was supported by an enthusiastic auction - a couple of the more interesting items were the privilege to play on the iconic Packer golf course “Ellerston” and the opportunity to be a character in Matthew Reilly’s next novel.
Mary’s House was the delighted recipient of more than $85-thousand, a combination of a share of the general proceeds and a number of direct donations from generous members. This is roughly equivalent to 25 per cent of Mary’s House annual operating costs and makes a major contribution to the Board being able to open the doors with confidence about our long term sustainability.
Mary’s House is extremely grateful to the owners of THGCC, represented by the President Victor Lin, who made the course and club house available for the day at no cost. We are also appreciative of the members’ committee who devoted hundreds of hours to organising a wonderful event, and all the sponsors and attendees who so generously contributed financially and the management and staff who ensured the golf and dinner were truly excellent.
